MISTY MEADOWS BREEDING PROGRAM:

At the heart of our breeding program is Claylee's Cole by Mid's Colby. Born in 1992, Cole is a strong, compact 13.2 hh with excellent conformation, and an intelligent, willing temperament. He currently weighs 1050 lbs. He received an A in his riding tests and a very high 2nd premium score at the 1998 Dutch keuring at Saltspring Island. (Bob and Joke VanClick for larger picture Bon) He scored consistently with 8's and 9's in obedience and behavior and 19/20 on character. This gentle, kind temperament is very noticeable in his offspring. He was Grand Champion Draft Horse at the Saanich Fair, 1997 and Reserve Grand Champion of 1996. He has powerful hindquarters and good movement for both riding and driving. Although new to the sport, he has been very reliable at Combined Driving events, winning second in training division (large pony) at the Victoria Driving Trials in 1999. Cole is available for standing at stud to registered Fjord mares only. Stud fees: $750 Cdn.

They posses the classic European breed standards with ample bone, correct length of neck, straight movement with lots of stride, grand head with wide forehead, huge eyes, heavy jowls and narrow muzzles. We breed for a temperament which is gentle, and easy to handle in all situations with a willingness to work in all equestrian disciplines. We believe that our constant handling and year round training programs ensure a supple and athletic Fjord which is excellent both as a saddle or driving animal. Mares and foals are returned to the herd within a week of birth and there is space and hills on which to play and build up muscle. Mares are generally ready again for trail riding three weeks after foaling. Foals are extensively imprint trained, handled by both children and adults and have extensive ground work done before they are two.

Guests are welcome to visit and familiarize themselves with our fjords at any time.
